SUNDAY SERVICE

Sunday, February 22nd at 10:30am

This Lent, we follow Jesus from wilderness solitude to life-giving community, discovering who we are and who we belong to.

Presiding/Preaching: Rev. Sandra Nixon

FOR YOUR ATTENTION & ACTION

Saturday Feb 21 at 2pm: An Invitation from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation

Join a group from Trinity Grace at St. Andrew’s Wesley!

The waters of the Burrard Inlet are under threat. A proposal to dredge near the Second Narrows Bridge would disturb the sea floor and sea life to move even more oil through this channel. Rueben George of Tsleil-Waututh Nation is inviting people to come pray for the waters of the inlet and discuss how we can take action together to keep the inlet safe from dredging.

TGUC’s Pledge as an Apartheid Free Community includes “… to join others in working to end all support to Israel’s Aparthdi regime, settler colonialism, and military occupation” One way to do this - Support Boycott and Divestment Actions (click on image above for more info about BDS).

During Lent, we will provide examples of both successful and on-going BDS campaigns. This week:

Successful - Scotia Bank

Reason for Boycott: large investment in Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest arms manufacturer. The armaments it manufactures are “field-tested” on Palestinians.

On-going - Chevron

Reason for Boycott: Chevron extracts fossil gas claimed by Israel in the Eastern Mediterranean, and by its payments to Israel helps finance Israel’s war chest and apartheid.

IN MEMORIAM

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Please keep Shadia Qubti, our Community Engagement Animator, and her family in your prayers. Shadia’s father passed away earlier this week, and Shadia has gone home to be with her family.

Shadia asked that we share the bereavement announcement (left) on her behalf. Translation:

“I am the resurrection and life, whoever believes in me, even if dead, shall live”. The local Baptist Church in Nazareth; Rhadia, his bereaved wife: Samir, Sammy, Bashir and Shady, his sons; Bushra and Shadia, his daughters, and all Qupty and Shurush; and their relatives here and abroad mourn the death of their beloved Qubti clan elder, Elia Jaber Qubti -  86 yrs old.
