Statement on Apartheid-Free Church Sign Graffiti
Between Saturday, February 8th, and Sunday, February 9th, an Apartheid-Free Church yard sign was spray-painted with a swastika. We are disappointed by this action, which has been reported to the appropriate authorities. We trust they will investigate thoroughly and hold the perpetrators accountable.
As a church in the network of Apartheid-Free Communities, we condemn all forms of racism, including anti-Palestinian racism, antisemitism and Islamophobia. This incident strengthens our resolve. We remain determined to do justice, working for freedom and equality for all people.
WHAT IS ANTI-PALESTINIAN RACISM?
WHAT IS APARTHEID-FREE COMMUNITIES?
“The Apartheid-Free network is a coalition of communities who pledge to work together to end Israeli apartheid… The Apartheid-Free network is a public pledge against all forms of racism, bigotry, and oppression, including against racist discrimination, islamophobia, antisemitism, and xenophobia in our own communities. We seek to educate ourselves and our communities about the devastation of Palestinian lives under military occupation, settler colonialism, and apartheid, and about the connections between settler colonialism, racist oppression, and the cult of security in Palestine/Israel, in North America, and throughout the world.” Read more here
