A hands-on workshop and fundraiser for the children and civilians of Gaza and Ukraine
You're invited to gather, work with your hands, and make something that carries hope across borders.
Together we'll learn to craft a Motanka, a traditional Ukrainian cloth doll made by winding and tying fabric, never cut and never stitched with a needle. A Motanka is a handmade symbol of protection, hope, and well-being, deeply rooted in Ukrainian culture. They are traditionally crafted from old family garments, and the maker's intentions are meant to be woven into the doll as it takes shape. Faceless by design, the Motanka has long been made by women and passed down through generations as a guardian of family memory and a talisman of health, harmony, and hope.
Bring a piece of fabric that matters to you: from a garment, a home, a memory, a place you love, to wind into your own Motanka. As you work, that cloth becomes part of a prayer held in your hands.
Come to work with your hands, hear stories, and stand together to say that Ukrainian and Gazan lives matter.
Seats are limited: because materials are prepared in advance, registration is essential. Please sign up early to reserve your place.
Minimum donation: $30 (cash preferred). All proceeds support children and civilians in Gaza and Ukraine.
All are welcome. No experience needed.
This workshop is part of the Free Palestine Together series — an immersive journey of solidarity, storytelling, and community, open to anyone who wants to Free Palestine Together. This season, we're creating space not just to read or watch, but to work with our hands and be present with Palestinian voices, experiences, and stories.
