July 10th E-News
The last sentence of Mary Oliver’s poem is the most famous. But the heart of the poem is in the question, ‘What else should I have done?’ What else, that is, aside from paying attention, falling down into the grass, being idle and blessed?
In a world where we are encouraged to imagine a ‘life well lived’ as one that is “productive” and busy, my hope for this summer is that we may all discover some of Mary Oliver’s way of praying.
Here’s to summer days blessed by the enormous eyes of grasshoppers, the soft fragrance of cedar, the salty embrace of the ocean waves, and the abiding love of the Creator of it all!
