Cedar Weaving Reflections
On Wednesday, 17 of us had the privilege of learning from Musqueam artist, Rita Kompst, about her art of cedar weaving. Rita is also a natural dyer of wool with mushrooms, plants and lichens.
We used both to weave beautiful hearts, with small ‘pouches’ in the centre into which we placed a special message we wrote.
As I reflect on the evening together, what stays with me is how so much of creation - from a great red cedar, to insects and lichen used for the dyes, to the respectful hands and hearts of those who gather, prepare and teach - is woven together (literally) with beauty, and generosity, and connection.
Thank you Rita!!
